Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the minutiae of the present. The nitty gritty details of life. We can get so focused on getting the kids dressed, the cleats on, the snacks packed, helping in the dugout, that we miss the beauty of our child running and having fun playing a game with friends. It happens to all of us.
One of the places it happens is at church. We get so caught up in our particular thing, our ministry, our act of service, greeting, the coffee bar, the nursery, etc, that we lose sight of what’s really going on. We sell ourselves short, and imagine we’re just passing offering trays for a small church in a small town. We forget that we’re serving in the Kingdom of God.
Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Here, Paul elevates our actions and our words. All of them are not merely being done for a boss, a friend, to meet a deadline, or for a church. They’re being said and done as representatives of Jesus.
Thank you so much for volunteering this week. I hope and pray that as you greet, prepare, play with, set up, tear down, open doors, and pass trays, you might see that bigger picture. You’re doing all of those things while advancing the Kingdom of God. You’re a representative of Jesus. Thank you for working, not at a small church in a small town, but for volunteering in God’s Kingdom to accomplish His mission as a representative of Jesus Christ. Thank you!
